I have to admit knowing nothing about the law. This lawyer that my mom recommended gave me a lot of great information and then said it would only be about ohhhhh $3,000 or so to continue our fun discussions. I decided to go online and research other lawyers. In my search, I found LegalZoom and decided to trademark my company name through them (can I mention it here? anyway, it’s a retailer selling European imported goods and products for pregnant women and new moms.) Their law library basically told me everything that first lawyer did, and I did my trademark in a few minutes…literally. It cost just a couple hundred dollars, and I’ve already got my approved registered trademark in the mail. I’ve already recommended these guys to fellow entrepreneur friends of mine and I think they’ve all had good experiences, too. anyway, for what it’s worth…

I group LegalZoom in with Amazon, Netflix, eBay, Orbitz…sites like those: true innovators with an amazing business idea that used the Internet to change the system, in this case common legal documents. I used legalzoom to create my will and i’m currently using it to set up an llc. Customer service has been phenomenal, and the law library and FAQs answered most of my questions. I’d recommend it to anybody, especially those that bank online and book travel online…do it yourselfers can easily figure this stuff out.

I had put off getting my last will for a long time (figuring I might change my mind about who to leave my money to, etc, plus I wasn’t sure if I’d know everything I’d need to know before hand). The site was easy, had good help, and now I have a last will in force. Before because of the cost and hassle of seeing a lawyer I figured I’d only do a will every decade – now if something changes I can afford to just update my will.

I deal with enough contracts and other legal matters to not be intimidated (but I’m no expert) – this was exactly what I needed to make my wishes concrete. My only complaint – I needed a Living Will and Power of Attorney too, and they didn’t offer a discounted package – I had to buy everything separately, which was a small hassle.

“Awesome professional customer service and very timely completion of requested services which included registering my business, obtaining my LLC, my trademark services, and securing my Tax ID # for my business. I am especially impressed with the delivery and the way in which all of my materials were packaged with my company’s name and all of the professional documents I will need in the future for my business interactions. They saved me a lot of time and work. Thank you!!!”

I was pretty hesitant to use Legalzoom after reading some of the reviews here. But my sister recommended LegalZoom based on a previous experience, so I tried them out. The online questionnaire was straight-forward, I paid $35, got my document in a nice folder about 3 days later. Everything looked good to me. Also, I had no problem getting it notarized. Went to a UPS store, paid them about $10, the notary even commented on how professional the document looked.

I’m stunned that anyone could possibly have a bad experience!

I used LegalZoom to create a will, and found the experience to be easy and painless. Like anything else, the quality of your experience with LegalZoom, or any other self-service software, will depend on the time that you spend reading the instructions. I found that they provided the information I needed, and the guidance to get through the process – it’s just up to me to do it correctly.

The will arrived in the mail within a few days, exactly as I expected. I saved a few hundred dollars over going to an attorney, and more importantly, have protected my family for when the inevitable happens.
